LOS NUEVOS AMERICANOS - Un diálogo Quizá lo que estamos presenciando es, en el contexto de la historia de las Américas, tan sólo el continuo proceso de mestizaje,descrito originalmente como la fusión de las sangres y las culturas europea e india que dio origen a los pueblos mestizos, que conforman la mayoría de la población latinoamericana. El mestizaje, al contrario de la asimilación que subyace al término inglés "melting pot" (crisol de razas), ha permitido que la influencia india no se haya convertido solamente en una referencia histórica, sino en un legado perdurable y en continua evolución. Del mismo modo, permite la continua adopción de nuevas influencias sin poner en peligro las raíces históricas. El mestizaje es un viaje sin final; es la versión cultural del movimiento perpetuo, no en el aspecto teórico, sino en la práctica. |

Truth and Fictions It has been sustained in recent discussions, that photography has lost it's innocence. In the future people will look upon the conceptual notion surrounding photography today as equivalent to how the world was perceived when it was considered to be flat, or at the center of the Universe. THE NEW AMERICANS Perhaps what we are seeing is, in the context of the history of the Americas, merely the ongoing process of mestizaje, which originally described the mingling of European and Indian blood and culture that created the mixed people (mestizos) that are the majority in Latin America today. Mestizaje, unlike the U.S. assimilationist term"melting pot," allows for the Indian influence to serve not as a historical footnote but as an enduring, ever-evolving legacy. Likewise, it allows for new influences to be adopted continuously without really jeapordizing the historical root. Mestizaje is a journey that has no end; it is the cultural version of perpetual motion not in theory but in practice. Give us your opinion on this matter. |
