Technique
The
first 2 images consist of scanned photographs and scanned 3 dimensional
objects. I used Photoshop to combine my imagery. The last 3 images
were created without the use of camera or film. I scanned parts
of my body as well as various objects I collected and used Photpshop
to create my imagery.

digitalizados. Utilizé Photoshop para combinar mis imágenes.
Las últimas tres imágenes se crearon sin el uso
de cámara o película. Con un escáner, digitalicé
partes de mi cuerpo y objetos que recogí. Usé Photoshop
para crear mis imágenes.

Comments
The
terminal illness and eventual death of my mother-in-law as well
as my ongoing preoccupation with death inspired this body of work.
The work draws on my intrigue with the traditions and rituals of
other cultures —particularly Victorian memorial rituals using
hair and Mexican prayer paintings and milagros— in coping with
the reality of death and mortality while using my own body, my face
and hands in particular to explore and mark our process of living
and dying. |

Comentarios
La
enfermedad terminal de mi suegra y su eventual muerte, combinadas
con mi preocupación constante con la muerte, inspiraron esta
obra. Esta obra recurre a mi fascinación por las tradiciones
y ritos de otras culturas —en particular a los ritos victorianos
de la muerte que usan cabellos y a los ex-votos y milagros mexicanos—
para hacer frente a la realidad de la muerte y la mortalidad, usando
mi cuerpo, mi rostro y manos para explorar y marcar el proceso de
nuestra vida y muerte. |
