AY DIOS - Diana Blok

Transvestite

I was walking down the crowded streets during carnival. A scene from the underworld unfolding in broad daylight caught my eye. I pointed my lens towards what appeared to be a thin women accompanied by another woman with earrings and rings in her nose and bellybutton.

The one in the red blouse turned towards me and started to perform. I was definitively not dealing with a woman, they prefer to hide rather than to pose so openly. As I photographed, I felt threatened: this was a man dressed as a woman.

When I turned around, I found that a group of people had gathered around us to witness the scene. We had become a theater: she/he was acting, I was directing and the rest applauded.
