Everybody is excited because it is prom night,
but nobody knows how to act in their gowns and tuxedos. It's a night of
showing off. It's a night of showing what you have and how you can dress
and how you can drive or what you can drive. Some people rent cars. Some
people borrow their parents' car. Some people have limos. Some guy even
rented a Ferrari, which is like four hundred dollars just for a night.
It is a huge queue waiting for the cars, and everybody wants to be looked
at. When the limos come around, the driver will get out and open the door
and everybody kind of looks around to see who is looking at them as they
get into the limo. I don't know what is cooler, to drive the fifty-thousand-dollar
car or to act like you're unfazed by the person who drives it- to act like
it doesn't affect you.
Some people take hotel rooms. You have expectations of what might happen.
You might have a lot of fun. You might become an adult. You might start
drinking or you might do things that you wouldn't normally do. You just
try to have a good time. Your palms are sweaty and your knees are shaking,
but it's a lot of fun. People get to be grown-up.
