Women from Clay - Marcela Taboada

When someone dies, a cross is drawn on the floor of the house of the deceased, where they have stood vigil over the body before the burial. The cross is drawn with earths of different colors, it is big and very beautiful. During nine days, a rosary is said next to the cross. On the ninth day, they take the remains of the cross to the cemetery to bid farewell to the soul of the deceased. This photograph was taken after the nine days, having climbed up a steep hill to get to the cemetery and place the cross on the grave.

The hands of these women never rest, they have not forgotten how to caress a child or console grief.
