The port of Veracruz has played a significant role in the history of Mexico. Joaquín Santamaría photographed Veracruz during the first half of the twentieth century. A baker, then a photographer’s assistant, and then finally as a newspaperman, Santamaría photographs his hometown with openness, humor, and a sense of his place as a recorder of history.
